NEWS UPDATE: CELDI-Liberia Empowers Hundreds of Young Girls on World Menstrual Hygiene Day

MONROVIA, LIBERIA — On May 28, 2026, the Center for Education and Leadership Development Initiatives (CELDI-Liberia) joined the global community to celebrate World Menstrual Hygiene Day. With the theme centered on breaking stigmas and ensuring period dignity for every young woman, the indoor program brought together students, community leaders, and local officials for a day of education, advocacy, and empowerment.

For many girls in Liberia, a lack of access to sanitary products and clean facilities leads to missed school days and undue social stigma. CELDI’s program directly confronted this challenge by combining vital health education with the distribution of essential hygiene supplies.

Key Highlights from the Celebration:

Holistic Health Education: Led by guest facilitators, participants engaged in open, interactive sessions covering reproductive health, hygienic practices, and debunking common myths surrounding menstruation.

Fostering Leadership & Confidence: Beyond the physical aspects of health, the event provided a safe space for young girls to speak out, ask questions, and build the confidence necessary to advocate for themselves and their peers.

Direct Supply Distribution: Thanks to the ongoing generosity of our supporters, CELDI distributed sanitary pads to ensure that the girls in attendance can remain in school comfortably and confidently.

"Period dignity isn't just about hygiene—it's an educational right. When we give a girl the resources to manage her health safely, we ensure she stays in the classroom, protects her future, and steps into her leadership potential."

Also, during the occasion, CELDI-Liberia launched its Menstrual Hygiene Club for the eight participating schools. The intention for the club was to create in each school a chapter of the club that will continue menstrual hygiene awareness and create a space where sanitary pads and supplies can be kept for all girls who will need them. CELDI intends to supplies those schools with sanitary materials on a quarterly bases, as the clubs continue monthly peer-to-peer awareness.

Words from heart.
